Driver seriously injured in crash on Highway 6 near Vernon

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to three separate vehicle collisions this morning after an overnight snowfall made roads extremely slippery.

The first crash happened at about 6:13 a.m. today, Dec. 14, according to an RCMP press release, and was the most serious.

It happened on Highway 6 in Coldstream, east of Aberdeen Road, as a result of a westbound vehicle crossing over the centre line and striking an oncoming five-ton truck.

The westbound driver suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital, RCMP said. The driver of the truck wasn't hurt.

The highway recently reopened after being closed for several hours while police investigated. Road conditions were determined to be a factor in the crash.

Shortly after, at around 6:24 a.m., police responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 97. It happened at Stickle Road. A driver lost control and struck a guard rail after hitting some debris on the road, RCMP said. No injuries were reported.

Then at 7:25 a.m., there was another a single vehicle collision on Highway 97  near Crystal Waters Road south of Vernon. A driver hit a slippery section, lost control and left the roadway. The driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are reminding drivers to slow down and use extra caution in wintery driving conditions.
