Drought Hill wildfire being held, evacuees can return home

The Drought Hill wildfire in Peachland is being held, some evacuation orders have been downgraded and some alerts have been lifted. The fire is being held at 57 hectares between Highway 97 and Highway 97C. The Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre has downgraded 118 addresses on evacuation orders to alerts, and lifted the evacuation alert for 490 addresses. BC Wildfire Service said the fire is now a rank one, which means it’s a smouldering ground fire. There are 11 wildland firefighters alongside local department crews working the fire. No aircraft are working the fire today, but they are on standby in case they're needed. Travellers have been told to expect some delays in traffic going through the fire area on Highway 97. Traffic is open for a single lane in both directions.
