Fraudster in Kamloops tricks victim into giving up their bank cards

A fraudster convinced someone in Kamloops to put their bank cards in a mailbox back in August. Kamloops RCMP are warning people about an online scam after someone fell victim on Aug. 22, according to a press release from police issued today, Sept. 19. The victim was trying to sell something in an open online market and unknowingly put their personal information into a fake banking webpage. Someone called up the victim and told them that fraud had taken place and they needed to put their bank cards in an envelope and leave them in a mailbox for pick-up. The cards were picked up and used shortly after. “As part of the investigation video footage of the alleged suspect was obtained,” Cpl. Dana Napier said in the release. “In order to advance the investigation, we are releasing an image of the suspect with the hopes to identify him.” Kamloops RCMP wants to remind people that banks don’t use couriers to collect bank cards or personal information and to stay vigilant online when it comes to sharing any personal or banking details.
