There's a heavy police presence at a hotel on Columbia Street in Kamloops this afternoon.
Several frontline officers and members of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team were called at around 3 p.m., April 29, to a report about someone in a mental health crisis armed with a gun, according to an RCMP media release.
“Members of the (Southeast District Emergency Response Team) were fortunately nearby and were able to quickly deploy to assist, due to the high-risk nature of the report,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.
Police have asked the public to stay away from the area while officers deal with the situation.
