Winter skies and backcountry landscapes in Kamloops and the Okanagan abound with birds of prey and hungry mammals busily hunting for their next meals.
Majestic bald eagles and feathery owls swoop from high perches with their fierce talons outstretched to snag hapless victims while wild cats and coyotes prowl low to the ground using their keen senses to find food, even through the snow.
This winter area photographers captured stunning action photos of wildlife hunting, with some predators coming up with prey and some making failed attempts.
Summerland photographer Shelley Arding watched and photographed a bald eagle hunting a duck on Okanagan Lake this week.
“It was very interesting to watch. I’d seen eagles pick up the smaller coots before but not a duck of this size,” she said. “At one point the eagle sat on the duck, trying to drown it, it took three or four attempts before he got him out.”
