Sine Newbold was sitting out by her fire pit at her home in Penticton recently when a bobcat came around the corner of her house.
She rushed inside her Carmi Avenue home and was able to capture footage of the typically elusive cat as it walked by his kitchen window in a crouched position, sniffing the ground.
“Although we’re surrounded by wildlife here, we’ve only seen a bobcat twice in the past 20 years,” she said. “He was likely hunting for gophers.”
The wildcat sat down on the property for roughly 20 minutes, allowing Newbold to snap a couple of photos of it before it disappeared back into the woods.
The sighting took place on the morning of Aug. 2 and she hasn’t seen it since.
“I’m keeping my eyes open, hoping to see it again. He knows there's food around as our land is left to stay wild,” Newbold said.
Bobcats are common in the southern and central part of the province but are not often seen by humans as they are highly elusive in nature and mostly active at night, according to National Geographic.
