Vernon pharmacist to get four years jail for manslaughter

A Vernon pharmacist is looking at spending four years in jail for the manslaughter of his former girlfriend.

Today, June 9, at the Vernon courthouse, Shaun Wiebe, sat in the dock, while the court heard he would get four years in jail.

Last month, Wiebe pleaded guilty to the manslaughter death of his former partner Heather Barker.

The case dates back to March 2018, when Barker, who was a mother of three, was found by police in an unresponsive state at Wiebe's home in the upmarket Vernon neighbour The Rise.

Barker was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital where she died.

It was almost three years later in January 2021 when Wiebe was arrested and charged with manslaughter and assault causing bodily harm.

He has previously run Wiebe’s Pharmacy on 35 Street in Vernon, which shut down months after Barker's death.

The College of Pharmacists of B.C. pulled his licence to practice in December 2019, saying Wiebe had a substance addiction.
