UPDATE: Kamloops courthouse threat prompts evacuation, lockdown

The Kamloops courthouse was locked down Thursday morning as police were called to a threat to the building. Multiple sources have told iNFOnews.ca it's believed to be a bomb threat, but Kamloops RCMP would only confirm it was a threat without commenting on its nature. Spokesperson Const. Sofie Winkels would only said officers cleared the building around 9 a.m., June 19, out of an "abundance of caution." BC Sheriffs continued guarding the area outside the courthouse into the afternoon and couldn't say when the incident would be resolved, while police searched the building. While rumours circulate about the nature of the threat, a bomb threat would typically require a response from RCMP explosive experts in the Lower Mainland. Access to the surrounding Interior Health and provincial government buildings remains restricted while police search the courthouse.
