Cyclists raised money for YMCA youth programs in downtown Kelowna today
Dozens of cyclists gathered in downtown Kelowna today for a fundraiser to support programs for local children and youth. The YMCA’s Cycle for Strong Kids event in Stuart Park had dozens of stationary bikes, activities for kids, barbecue, and appearances from NHLers, according to a press release. Revelstoke’s own former Vancouver Canuck Aaron Volpatti, Washington Capital Ethan Bear, and Toronto Maple Leaf Joel Edmundson were at the fundraiser today. Southern Interior YMCA’s vice president of philanthropy Tammy Watson said the 17th edition of this annual fundraiser is essential to maintaining programs for kids and youths. “We are thrilled to welcome more of our community to join this fun and impactful event,” Watson said in the release. “Our charity relies heavily on this fundraiser to ensure preventive child and youth programs, including services for mental health and drop-out prevention, remain free to those most vulnerable.” READ MORE: Kamloops councillor wants to make provincial 'downloading' an election issue https://infotel.ca/newsitem/kamloops-councillor-wants-to-make-provincial-downloading-an-election-issue/it105007 Stationary cyclists pedalled in shifts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the money they raised is going to support 1,300 local low-income and at-risk youth. “Words don’t even begin to describe the gratitude we have for the heart and incredible generosity of our supporters, who are helping set children, youth, and families up with a strong foundation that will last a lifetime,” Watson said.
