Penticton prolific offender strikes police vehicle during arrest

Penticton RCMP had lots of backup with them when they stumbled upon a prolific offender on a forest service road.

The local police were conducting proactive enforcement efforts up Forest Service Road 200 on Feb. 1, according to an RCMP press release, and they had support from the Police Dog Service, Air Services and the B.C. Conservation office.

“Some suspicious activity” was detected and police tried to confront the driver of an unregistered vehicle, which had two men inside, RCMP said.

The driver fled and struck a police cruiser, RCMP said. The officer inside was not injured.

Shortly after the collision the men ditched their vehicle and tried to escape on foot. But their efforts were futile, the RCMP made use of their extra support and apprehended both men.

RCMP said one of the suspects, Clayton Bone of Penticton, is a prolific offender and is now facing a number of charges related to Tuesday’s incident including dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and use of a weapon to assault a police officer.

“Penticton RCMP will continue to pressure those individuals that choose to live a life of crime and hamper the quality of life for law-abiding community members of the South Okanagan,” Penticton RCMP Staff Sgt. Bob Vatamaniuck said in the release.
