Penticton's hospital has a second CT scanner to serve patients thanks to donations to local non-profit groups.
The $5 million CT scanner was funded by donations to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation and Okanagan Similkameen Regional Hospital District, according to an Interior Health media release issued today, March 18.
The second CT scanner will allow for better quality in medical imagery services at the hospital and alleviate wait times related to radiology.
“Investing in a second CT scanner at (Penticton Regional Hospital) is an important part of our strategy to increase efficiencies to better support patient care in the South Okanagan-Similkameen area,” Susan Brown, president and CEO of Interior Health, said in the release.
A CT is diagnostic equipment that combines X-ray with advanced computer-processing technology to create accurate, detailed images of internal structures and organs, according to Interior Health. A CT scan is an advanced medical-imaging procedure that uses a revolving X-ray producing tube, special electronic sensors and powerful computers, to make slice-like, cross-sectional images.
“We are incredibly grateful to our generous donors who funded a significant portion of the new machine. We are thrilled to be a part of this innovative project at (Penticton Regional Hospital),” Ian Lindsay, CEO of South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation, said in the release.
