Cool, rainy March in Kamloops and the Okanagan

If you were thinking April was a cool and wet month in the Okanagan and Kamloops, you were correct. While April's weather may not have been ideal for outdoor recreation, the moisture was good for the drought conditions being experienced in the Thompson-Okanagan region. Kamloops received the most rain last month among the four major cities in the region with 21 millimetres, according to Environment Canada weather data. Vernon was next with 19.9 mm in April, followed closely by Penticton at 19.7 mm. Kelowna received 11.9 mm. Kamloops also recorded the rainiest day in the region with 11.8 mm falling on April 26. Penticton’s rainiest day was on April 26 with 7.4 mm and Vernon had 6.1 mm on April 27. April was also a chilly month in the region with an average mean temperature of approximately 9.5 C in Vernon and Kelowna, 8.8 C in Penticton and 9.6 C in Kamloops. The first few days of May should be sunny with above normal temperatures for this time of year. Environment Canada is calling for daytime high temperatures around 20 C in Kamloops and the Okanagan. Clouds roll in for the weekend with showers in the forecast early next week.
