'Missing from Me': Heather Shtuka coming to Kamloops for book signing

Heather Shtuka will be at a book signing event at Chapters in Kamloops next month on the weekend that marks five years since her son Ryan went missing from Sun Peaks Mountain Resort.

Her new book Missing from Me is a 100,000-word novel and the product of two years of writing detailing the process Heather and her family went through after Ryan’s disappearance.

“In some ways I feel that sharing missing from me with the community is a coming full circle moment,” she said. “They were there from the very beginning, sharing the story, spreading awareness and volunteering their time to help search. So many people feel connected to Ryan. I find myself honoured and humbled by that.”

Missing from Me is available for purchase through Amazon and was almost instantly listed as a number one best seller in multiple genres.

In a previous interview with iNFOnews, Heather said the process of writing about and reliving the moments since she last saw her son alive has been heartbreaking.

She wrote the book to preserve her son’s legacy and is hoping it will help others going through similar experiences.

“I hope it gets other people interested in learning about Ryan’s story and missing people in general,” she had said. “I hope it brings attention to the helplessness parents feel when all main lines of help in searching stops and how to continue on."

Heather's hoping to do a book signing at Sun Peaks the same weekend but is waiting for confirmation.

For those who haven’t purchased a copy of Heather's book yet, or want the author’s signature, the book signing takes place Saturday, Feb. 18, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Chapters at 1395 Hillside Dr. in Kamloops.
