Door smashed at Kamloops city hall but motive elusive
A glass door was smashed at Kamloops city hall last week. Nothing was stolen, but little else about the incident is clear. It's a side door used as an exit from council chambers and is nearly always locked from the outside. "We were made aware of the damage early last week and we have no concerns that any items have been removed from the city premises, the incident has been reported to the RCMP," Joe Luison, assistant civic operations director, said in an emailed statement. Community Services manager Will Beatty, meanwhile, said staff discovered the smashed door on Wednesday morning, March 8. It was the day after last week's committee of the whole meeting in which councillors jointly called for the mayor to resign. https://infotel.ca/newsitem/kamloops-city-council-calls-for-mayor-to-resign/it104632 Beatty said RCMP would be able to comment on any details about it as bylaw officers had no role in the investigation. Crystal Evelyn did not provide any details. Although not commonly required in regular media inquiries, she requested the RCMP file number before looking into police records for the investigation. Luison said he didn't have the file number. It's not the first time city hall has been targeted and police were called.
