Record 534 new COVID cases in Interior Health

The Interior Health region recorded it’s highest number of COVID cases in a 24-hour period with 534 new cases today, Jan. 12.

The previous high day was Jan. 7 at 526.

The number of new COVID-19 cases in B.C. in the last 24 hours increased by more than 600 to 2,859 but that’s far below the peak of 4,383 on Dec. 30.

There were 982 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 697 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 451 on Vancouver Island and 195 in the Northern Health region, according to a news release from the Province of B.C. issued today.

There were six more deaths but none in Interior Health, bringing the provincial total to 2,455.

There are 36,641 active cases of which 4,628 are in Interior Health. There are 500 people in hospital with COVID, 102 of whom are in intensive care.

The percentage of B.C. residents 12 and over who have received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine remains at 92.2% while those with two doses climbed slightly to 89.5% and 27.9% have three doses.
