Usually the warning for drivers heading into the Victoria Day long weekend is to drive the speed limit and care to avoid a crash.
This long weekend, it’s also slow down because it’s probably going to snow on the mountain passes in the southern Interior.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement with 2 to 5 centimetres of snow expected on mountain passes on the Coquihalla, Okanagan Connector and Trans-Canada highways in the southern Interior.
An upper low will bring a cool airmass to high elevations late Thursday, May 16, into the long weekend.
The cold air along with precipitation means the mountain passes can expect a snow overnight Thursday and possibly overnight Friday and Saturday morning, the weather office said.
Snow can be expected above 1,000 metres on the Coquihalla Highway and the Okanagan Connector.
Snow is forecast above 1,300 m on Rogers Pass while the snow level at the Begbie Summit is 1,000 m.
On Highway 3, expect snow above 1,000 m on the Allison Pass and above 1,400 m through the Kootenay Pass.
