Winter storm bringing heavy snow to passes on Coquihalla, Trans-Canada this weekend
Heavy snowfall on the Trans-Canada and Coquihalla Highways is expected this weekend. Environment Canada has put out warnings for travellers about dangerous driving conditions. The Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass is expected to get 20 to 30 centimetres of snow starting tonight and continuing through Saturday. The Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt could get between 15 to 20 cm of snow starting Saturday afternoon and continuing through Sunday afternoon. Environment Canada said a strong Pacific low pressure system is coming through the BC Interior bringing a mix of rain and snow. Weather in the mountains can change quickly and cause hazardous driving conditions, and drivers should be prepared to adjust and slow down accordingly.
