Race car drivers in the South Okanagan are geared up for the Penticton Speedway’s annual memorial event which is going down this weekend.
The Gordy Mannes Memorial Invitational is two days of high octane action with the speedway gates opening at 4:30 p.m. and races starting at 7 p.m. today and tomorrow.
There will be hornets, street stocks, and hit-to-pass flying destruction events.
The races are in the memory of Gordy Mannes, a driver with the most championships in the Penticton Speedway’s history. Mannes raced from the 70s until the 90s and the speedway praises him as a pillar of the South Okanagan racing scene.
“Gordy Mannes was more than just a champion driver; he was a cornerstone of the Penticton Speedway community. Known for his competitive spirit and unmatched skills on the track, Gordy set the standard for racing excellence,” the speedway said in a press release.
