Broken sewer line closes several Vernon beaches
A broken sewer line has closed several beaches along Okanagan Lake in Vernon. Beaches from Kin Beach to Paddlewheel Park are closed until crews can finish controlling and repairing the sewer break, according to a press release from the City of Vernon. The broken sewer line is close enough to the lake to pose a risk to swimmers. Swimming is not allowed at those beaches near the broken sewer due to potentially high bacteria counts. The city will allow swimming after testing can confirm the water quality is at a safe level. The city has posted signs on the beach advising people to stay out of the water. “The water quality for the beaches will continue to be monitored and the public will be advised when it is safe to resume swimming in the area,” the city said in the release.
