Busted sewer line closes Vernon beaches on Okanagan Lake, again

For the second time this summer, some Vernon beaches have been closed due to a leaky sewer pipe. The City of Vernon has closed beaches from Kin Beach to Paddlewheel Park due to the potential of high bacteria counts. The City said there was a sewer line break in the Okanagan Landing area and while the spill has been isolated within the storm management system, the water has the potential to get into the lake. "Beaches within the proximity of the break will be temporarily closed until testing can confirm water quality is an acceptable level," the City said in a media release issued, Aug. 6.
