Fire between Vernon and Salmon Arm doubles in size

A wildfire burning between Vernon and Salmon Arm has doubled in size in the last 24 hours. As of 3 a.m. Aug. 7, the Hullcar Mountain wildfire in the Silvercreek area had grown to 670 hectares since being discovered over the long weekend https://infotel.ca/newsitem/north-okanagan-wildfire-continues-to-grow/it106048 . On the evening of Aug. 6, an evacuation order was put in place for around 100 properties spread over the jurisdictions of the Township of Spallumcheen, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Electoral Area D, and the Splatsin First Nation. Twenty-five more properties on the east side of Salmon River Road and the west side of Deep Creek Road were also put on evacuation alert. BC Wildfire says five helicopters are fighting the blaze which is classed as out of control, along with multiple crews on the ground. The fire is believed to have been caused by lightning.
