Severe thunderstorms are anticipated in Southern British Columbia as the conditions are favourable for creating a storm.
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch today, Aug. 12, that can affect the Okanagan Valley, South Thompson, North Thompson, Shuswap, Nicola and Boundary.
The thunderstorms may produce rain, hail and heavy wind in these areas.
Environment Canada is urging members of the public to stay inside if a storm nears.
“Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors,” the watch says.
Thunderstorm watches are released when atmospheric conditions are just right to develop strong gusts of wind, large hail and heavy rain.
