A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection to several fires in Vernon last night.
RCMP received several reports of a person setting fires on a property in the 2600 block of 27 Street in the city at around 8 p.m., Aug. 19, according to an RCMP media release.
Responding officers quickly found the suspect and arrested him.
The fires didn’t do any significant damage to the property.
Vernon RCMP media relations officer Const. Chris Terleski called the suspects’ actions reckless.
“It’s really concerning to see this happening,” Const. Terleski said in the release. “These fires have the potential to suddenly get out of control and can have disastrous consequences.”
Police credit the quick action of witnesses who saw the first being lit and called it in.
The 33-year-old man is in custody and was scheduled to appear in court today, Aug. 20.
RCMP don’t say what the suspect will be charged with.
