An economic impact study is surveying companies in cities from Salmon Arm to Osoyoos to measure how the tech industry is growing in the Okanagan.
Accelerate Okanagan is asking for companies to complete a 20 minute survey before June 30, and the results will be published in the fall, according to a press release.
“It's more important than ever to rally around the goal of building a world-class tech ecosystem in the Okanagan and help prop each other up while we look to build category-leading companies across the region,” 4AG Robotics CEO Sean O’Connor said in the release.
The study will measure jobs, revenue, investments, and what opportunities and challenges there are for tech companies in the Okanagan.

The manager at the Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission Krista Mallory said it's important to track an industry in order for it to grow.
”Benchmarking and understanding the performance of a sector is critical for informing policymakers and allocating resources,” Mallory said in the release. “We are looking forward to seeing the results and uncovering new opportunities for businesses in the Okanagan.”
The last economic impact study for Okanagan’s tech sector was in 2017, and Accelerate Okanagan said the pandemic and other local events have changed the tech sector to the point where updated data on things like remote teams, tech exits and acquisitions is necessary.
“Studies like this are why Accelerate Okanagan has become the backbone of the Okanagan tech ecosystem. It’s a central hub for helping startups in the region stay connected and access resources, and they’re working to show that we can punch way above our weight,” O'Connor said.
