Body of missing West Kelowna man found

The body of  27-year-old James Wood was discovered in the Smith Creek area of West Kelowna, yesterday, Jan. 2, ending a lengthy community search for him.

A group of people snowshoeing in the area found Wood's body in the early afternoon during an informal search to locate him.

Wood went missing from his home Nov. 8.

Wood's mother said he had the mental age of a 12-year-old and had physical and mental challenges.

"Officers from the West Kelowna RCMP have been in contact with the man’s family and provided them with this tragic update," West Kelowna Cpl. Tammy Lobb said in a media release. "Our thoughts are with the family of the man during this difficult time."

Police say criminality is not suspected in Wood's death.

The B.C. Coroners Service is now investigating to determine how Wood died.
