BREAKING: Kelowna's Renee Merrifield not seeking re-election as BC United MLA
Kelowna-Mission MLA Renee Merrifield won't be running for reelection under the BC United Party banner. She made the announcement in the legislature today, May 16. Her departure means the Central Okanagan will have all new MLAs after the next provincial election. None of them are seeking reelection again as the BC United Party continues to languish in the polls. She said on Twitter she is returning to her company Troika Developments and it appears she won't be joining the BC Conservatives as some have speculated. "The pressing issue of the housing crisis calls for dedicated and immediate action, and I believe that my leadership at the company I founded, Troika, is where I can make the most substantial impact," she said. "In the capable hands of Kevin Falcon and the BC United team, I am confident that our province's leadership is poised for a change that will usher in an era of prosperity and innovation. BC United is our best chance for not only change but a renewed focus on the priorities and needs of British Columbians." She said the decision wasn't made lightly. "Thank you, Kelowna-Mission, for the honour and privilege of your support and for allowing me the opportunity to serve."
