Night sky watchers in Kamloops and the Okanagan might want to stay up late this week to see the full supermoon which will be the brightest full moon of the year.
Known as the Hunter’s Moon, among other nicknames, the full October moon will reach peak illumination at 4:26 a.m. on Thursday Oct. 17, appearing full Tuesday evening to Friday morning.
Supermoons happen when a full moon is at or near its closest point to Earth in its orbit making it appear bigger and brighter, according to The Old Farmers Almanac
https://www.almanac.com/content/full-moon-october
. The Hunter's Moon is the third supermoon appearing this year and the closest one to Earth.
The moon gets its name because it appears during hunting season, and is also known by numerous other names including Blood Moon and Falling Leaves Moon, the Old Farmers Almanac said.
