Cat killed in Oliver house fire

A cat was found dead after a house fire on the outskirts of Oliver.

Firefighters responded to a report of a home on fire on Road 18 yesterday, March 5, around 5 p.m., according to a Facebook post from the Oliver Fire Department.

The first crew to respond observed heavy smoke coming from the home and reported that the occupants had already safely exited.

However one pet was found dead. Fire chief Bob Graham confirmed the pet was a cat.

Firefighters first vented smoke from the structure before making entry to extinguish the fire. Crews spent about 1.5 hours on scene knocking down the fire and a watch crew remained there until 10 p.m.

The house sustained heavy smoke, fire and water damage.
