Firearm report puts three Kamloops schools on hold and secure

Three Kamloops schools were under "hold and secure" this afternoon after a gun was reported at a Valleyview motel.

Kamloops RCMP headed to the motel on the 1900 block of the East Trans Canada Highway around 1:40 p.m., recommending schools take security precautions, according to a news release.

“Responding officers conducted extensive patrols in the area and recommended nearby schools be placed in a brief hold and secure,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

Police say they responded to a third-party report, claiming one person was pointing a firearm at another. One man was arrested at the scene, but he was released when officers found he wasn't the suspect.

“No one was located who matched the description of the suspect or the victim, the hold and secure was lifted, and the investigation is ongoing," Evelyn said.
