Heat warnings off but still hot, chance of thunderstorms in Kamloops, Okanagan

Temperatures in Kamloops and the Okanagan are forecast to be about 30 Celsius or more this week but that's not hot enough to trigger the extreme heat warnings that was in place over the weekend.

That warning is issued when daytime highs are expected to be 35 C or more with overnight lows of 18 C or more.

Kamloops reached a high of 35.6 on Saturday but only 31.9 yesterday, July 9.

It’s forecast to reach 32 C today in Kamloops with a 60% chance of showers this afternoon and thunderstorms this evening. Temperatures are expected to range from 30-34 C all week with the higher temperatures next weekend.

There is a 30% chance of showers tomorrow but the Environment Canada online forecast shows sunny skies through next weekend in Kamloops and the Okanagan.

Kelowna reached 35.7 C on Saturday and 34.2 C yesterday. It’s expected to reach 30 C today and there’s a 70% chance of showers and/or thunderstorms this afternoon.

It’s forecast to be 29 C tomorrow with a 40% chance of showers but warming up to 33 C by Sunday.

Vernon hit 35.8 C on Sunday and 34.9 C on Saturday while Penticton only made it to 35.1 C on Saturday, 34.1 Sunday. It’s forecast to only get to 26 C today in Penticton.

Lytton, which is normally the hot spot in BC if not the country, reached 37.8 C yesterday and had highs of more than 35 C for each of the past five days. It’s forecast to reach a relatively cool 30 C today.
