The Upper Nicola Indian Band is working with an archaeologist after human remains were found on a construction site last week.
Construction workers found the remains while working on the band's new community centre on May 3 and immediately called RCMP, according to an Upper Nicola news release issued four days later.
They discovered the remains are "not recent" and the band starting working with an archaeologist to determine how best to care for the remains. Details will be made public once they're confirmed, according to the release.
Until then, all work has stopped at the construction site, but band members are invited to the Quilchena Community Centre at 6990 Nicola River Road on May 9 to discuss next steps. The meeting begins at 1 p.m.
The news release did not estimate how old the human remains were.
It's not clear whether the BC Coroners Service was also called to the scene. Neither the coroners service nor BC RCMP immediately respond to inquiries about the remains.
