Kamloops cops seize more than a pound of meth during bust

A sharp-eyed Kamloops cop spotted a suspect wanted on a warrant after the vehicle he was in ran a red light and police wound up seizing more than a pound of methamphetamine.

The officer was patrolling in the area of 9 Avenue and St. Paul Street in Kamloops at approximately 4 a.m. Feb. 22, when a silver SUV ran a stop sign and the driver continued to operate the vehicle in a suspicious manner, according to an RCMP media release issued today, March 7.

The suspect vehicle was pulled over in the 900 block of Seymour Street.

“As the officer approached the SUV, a man exited the passenger side and was recognized as having an arrest warrant,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

The man was arrested and a search produced a baggie of what is suspected to be fentanyl.

Contraband cigarettes were seen inside the SUV and a female suspect was detained under the Excise Act, RCMP said. It also prompted a search of the vehicle.

That’s when the officer found more than a pound of meth, along with cash and cocaine. Ammunition of various kinds was also seized.

“The woman was released with no process, pending the results of the ongoing investigation, with charge recommendations anticipated,” the release said.

Anyone who witnessed or has information that may be related to this incident is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-6141.
