Kelowna man steals security vehicle in Kamloops

A Kelowna man was arrested on a Canada-wide warrant after he allegedly stole a security vehicle and crashed it into a light pole in downtown Kamloops.

Kamloops RCMP responded to Seymour Street West on Nov. 7, where the vehicle crashed into a light pole then continued to Columbia Street heading east, according to a news release.

The vehicle was reported to be stolen shortly after.

Multiple officers in both marked and unmarked vehicles responded to track the vehicle down.

“Thanks to the continuous updates provided on the vehicle’s location, officers were able to wait until the vehicle was safely stopped in Valleyview Square before moving in to take the suspect into custody," Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

Joseph Alain Parent, 46, was arrested and is now facing five criminal charges, including vehicle theft, theft under $5,000, mischief, dangerous driving and possession of stolen property.

He was also arrested on a warranted for being unlawfully at large, according to Kamloops RCMP.

He's expected in court for a bail hearing on Dec. 1 and court records show he is currently in custody.
