The Kamloops RCMP have opened a homicide investigating after a man was shot and killed in the city last night.

On Friday Aug. 26, around 10:45 p.m., Kamloops police officers responded to Ord Road near Singh Street for a 9-1-1 call involving two men who had been shot while inside a red Toyota Matrix, according to the Kamloops RCMP in a press release.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead shortly after and the second victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Several hours later, around 2 a.m., on Aug. 27, police were called to a vehicle fire on Frontage Road in Rayleigh. Whether the incidents are related is part of the ongoing investigation, according to police.

“Although the investigation is in its very early stages, the homicide victim was well-known to police and the shooting is believed to be targeted,” said Kamloops RCMP inspector Jeff Pelley, in the news release. “It is very important that anyone with information come forward as soon as possible to help officers determine what transpired and who is responsible.”

Police are asking anyone who witnessed or may have information related to this incident, including security footage, cell phone or dash cam video, to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.

Areas of particular interest include Ord Road and Singh Street, as well as Rayleigh Frontage Road, between 9 p.m. Aug. 26 and 2:30 a.m., Aug 27. The incidents are listed under file number 2022-30179.
