Penticton security guard assaulted; police seek suspect

Penticton RCMP are looking for your help identifying this suspect after he allegedly assaulted a security guard at a local business.

Police say the "loss prevention officer" confronted the man for shoplifting at an unidentified business on Green Ave around 9 p.m. yesterday, Nov. 16. The man allegedly punched him and tried to stab him with scissors before leaving in a dark-coloured, late-model Chev sedan.

“We are turning to the community in an effort to positively identify the person captured in this surveillance video,” Const. Dayne Lyons of the Penticton RCMP said in a news release. “If you know who this is or you are the person in this photograph, please come forward to police.”

The suspect is described as a 35- to 40-year-old Caucasian man, aged 30-35 with short brown hair and goatee facial hair and wearing a letterman-style jacket, a red toque, and glasses.

If you have information regarding the identity of the person in the photo, you are urged to call the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300 and quote file number 2022-18384.
