The City of Penticton is for help to name a new robot that paints the lines on sports fields.
The Turf Tank is a lime green 56 kilogram robot that paints white lines on turf and grass with precision, according to a media release from the city. The robot can paint a soccer field in 24 minutes, while it can paint a baseball field in 10.
“The Parks team used to manually paint the lines, so automating this process is saving us countless hours of staff time,” park supervisor Todd Whyte said in the release. “Since the robot is now part of the team, we thought it would be fun to open it up to residents to help give it a name.”
Names that have been suggested so far are Line-all Messi, Babe Ruth, Get Turfed and The Blade Runner.
City staff will go through the name suggestions and create a short list, which will allow residents to vote on the final name of the new addition to the city.
The winning name will be added to the robot as a permanent wrap and the winner will receive a prize. The city doesn't say what the prize is.
The robot can be seen this upcoming spring at King’s Park, McNicol Park along with baseball and slo pitch fields within the city.
