The provincial government has appointed a special mediator in an effort to negotiate an end to the strike at the Hudson’s Bay deprtment store in Kamloops.
As the strike goes into its fifth month, the Minister of Labour Harry Bains has appointed David Schaub to mediate talks between Hudson’s Bay Company and the workers in Kamloops who are represented by United Steelworkers Local 1- 417, according to a press release from the Ministry of Labour.
The strike began in early December when the Hudson’s Bay Company offered workers a 1% raise, workers in Kamloops decided it wasn’t enough and the doors have been closed since.

Schaub is going to work with both parties for up to 14 days to try to find a resolution to the strike.
If Schaub can’t find a resolution in two weeks, he will issue recommendations to end the dispute and each party will have an additional five days to accept or reject the recommendations.
Under the Labour Relations Code Schaub has to report back to the minister about the progress of the negotiations.
