City of Kamloops employees were paid nearly $2 million more from 2022 to 2023.
The boost in worker salaries went to both union staff and management equating to an average $34 property tax increase to the average household to pay for the increases last year, according to a city of Kamloops report.
The annual report details salaries for city employees and elected officials. It shows an overall increase of 2.5 per cent in salaries for employees, accounting for $73.8 million of the 2023 budget.

Union employees had a 5.5% increase to $43.6 million and management salaries went up by 3.9% to $14.8 million. The fire department's share of the budget, however, dropped by 7.4% to $15.4 million when compared to 2022 due to a retroactive payout at the time following a union agreement.
The city is required by legislation to publish the individual salaries of all employees earning at least $75,000 — a list that includes hundreds of municipal employees.
The highest earners on that list include chief administrative officer David Trawin at around $307,000, deputy chief administrative officer Byron McCorkell at around $241,000 and development and engineering director Marvin Kwiatkowski at around $218,000.
