String of shootings in Kamloops believed to be ongoing drug dealer conflict
Kamloops RCMP have responded to three shootings in the past three days, police believe it is an ongoing conflict between drug traffickers. Police received a report about gunshots in the 800-block of Sudbury avenue around 4:15 a.m. on May 4. Following the gunshots a vehicle sped away and three men with guns reportedly ran behind the 1200-block of 10 Street, according to a press release from RCMP. Police arrested one suspect who hid in a nearby commercial property, and seized a red BMW with damage that appeared to be caused by gunfire. “This shooting, along with the previous two shots fired reports received since Friday, are believed to be related to an ongoing conflict between local drug traffickers,” Kamloops RCMP officer in charge Supt. Jeff Pelley said in the release. “Our frontline officers and support units including Serious Crimes, Targeted Enforcement, Crime Reduction, General Investigation Support Team, and Forensic Identification Services, are working tirelessly to address this risk to public safety associated with those involved in criminal lifestyles.” Kamloops RCMP were called about shots fired at a residence in the 1200-block of 10 Street just after 6 a.m. on May 3. An older silver Volkswagen Jetta was seen leaving the area and was shortly found abandoned on 13 Street. Police received a report about shots fired at a motel in the 700-block of Columbia Street around 6:30 p.m. on May 2. Officers believe the actual shooting took place closer to midnight. “We understand these kinds of violent crimes are concerning to the community, and rightfully so, considering the risk they present to all residents,” Supt. Pelley said. “As we work to advance these investigations and hold those responsible to account, we continue to reach out to the public and ask for its assistance and support in reviewing security footage, reporting activities that could be related, and contacting police with information they may have about those involved.” There have been no reported injuries, and police have taken two people into custody. Kamloops RCMP are asking the public to, “be vigilant in reporting any suspicious activity and to contact the detachment with any information that may be related to these incidents.” Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference 20424-13098.
