UK chef takes over kitchen at Summerland Legion

Authentic British pies will soon be available at the Summerland Legion now that a Commonwealth chef has taken over Mac’s Kitchen.

Andrew Lyon – commonly known as Chef Andy – has been in the culinary business for 42 years, 32 of which were in the UK, and he’s about to be the new face of the Summerland Legion’s kitchen.

After lending his skills during last year’s Remembrance Day fundraisers, Chef Andy was invited to take on a full time role at the Legion.

“It was a no-brainer for me and the family,” he said.

Chef Andy’s menu is not limited to traditional British meals, and many of his recipes are fusions of international dishes. But on April 11, Poutine Day, he’ll be focusing on the Canadian delicacy, with seven varieties ranging from basic to lobster.

During other special days – particularly on May 6 during King Charles III's coronation 6 – there will be a tea party with a very British theme.

Chef Andy is still settling into the kitchen, but his tentative hours are currently noon to 7 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday.
