UPDATE: Standoff with Kelowna RCMP ends with suspect in custody

A police incident in the Lower Mission area of Kelowna today drew a heavy police response, but RCMP are releasing few details.

Police were called a disturbance among occupants at a home in the 600-block of Tomby Court in Kelowna at around 11:45 a.m. today, Feb. 22, according to an RCMP media release. Tomby Court is between Lakeshore Road and Gordon Drive, just north of De Hart Road.

"The Southeast District Critical Incident Program was activated and with assistance from an Incident Commander, Crisis Negotiators as well as the Emergency Response Team, the incident was resolved peacefully and one man was taken into custody," reads a second media release from RCMP.

RCMP said there was no threat to public safety and the incident was "isolated" to the Tomby Court residence.

No further details have been released and the incident is under investigation, RCMP said.

Police had asked the public to not post photos online of officers at the scene.
