Wind and rain for Kamloops, Okanagan into weekend

While a wind warning has been issued for Kamloops and mountain passes, that doesn’t mean the Okanagan is going to escape the winds today, Oct. 27.

An Environment Canada wind warning was issued yesterday for the South Thompson, including Kamloops, the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Kamloops and the Okanagan Connector.

That warning was updated a 4:45 a.m. today to say that gusts in that region are expected to reach 90 km/h and ease by late afternoon or early evening.

Winds in the Okanagan are expected to reach 70 km/h this morning, although that has not triggered a warning from Environment Canada.

Kelowna is expected to get hit with 5-10 millimetres of rain overnight tonight and into Friday while Kamloops and the rest of the Okanagan have a 30% chance of showers.

Skies should brighten tomorrow but cloud and showers are expected to return on the weekend with a 30% chance of showers in the Okanagan on Saturday and 70% in Kamloops on Sunday.

High temperatures in Kamloops are expected to reach 16 Celsius today and range from 14-16 C on the weekend. Normal highs are 10 C. It will be warm overnight at 9-12 C through the weekend before dropping to near freezing early next week. Normal lows at this time of year are 1 C.

For the Okanagan, highs are expected to be in the 12-13 C range through the weekend with overnight lows in the 6-9 C range. Normals are highs of 8 C and lows of 0 C.
