7 children treated for injuries after hot sauce smeared at B.C. playground

Multiple children were treated for minor injuries at a Port Moody playground earlier this week after police suspect hot sauce was deliberately smeared on high-touch areas.

Port Moody police officers as well as Port Moody Fire Rescue and B.C. Ambulance Service were called to Aspenwood Elementary, April 14, at about 12:30 p.m., for reports of multiple children who were experiencing reactions to an unknown substance, according to the police in a press release.

Police suspect the substance is hot sauce and it appears to have been deliberately smeared on high-touch surfaces of the playground, according to the Port Moody police.

A total of seven children were treated on scene for minor injuries relating to exposures in their eyes. Several of the children went home with parents and the remainder stayed at school for the day.

“We are actively investigating the matter to determine who is responsible” states Const. Sam Zacharias, in the press release.

He asks anyone with information on the incident to contact the police.
