A BC senior men's hockey player is taking an opposing forward to court after he was injured during a game last season.
Steven Venman was hit by Milo Johnson during an away game in Hazelton, which Venman said was not a "reasonable" hit, according to a notice of claim in BC Supreme Court.
Venman, who was playing for the Kitimat Ice Devils, suffered a fractured jaw, cheek and orbital bones, a torn shoulder ligament and a concussion, among the list of injuries he claims.

On Jan. 28, his team was playing against the Hazelton Wolverines in the Central Interior Hockey League, a competitive senior men's AA league. Contact is allowed in the league, but it appears Johnson's hit had him kicked from the game, according to online league records.
Johnson got a charging penalty less than six minutes into the third period, landing a five-minute major for his team and he was kicked off the ice, according to the online game log. He was one of four to get penalties between the two teams at the time.

Venman claims Johnson's hit constituted battery and assault, and he is seeking unspecified damages and health-care costs.
Johnson hasn't responded in court. Neither have any of the other defendants, which include the BC Hockey, Hockey Canada, the Kitimat Stikine Regional District and the Skeena Ice Arena Association.
None of the claims were proven in court.
Johnson did not respond to a request for comment from iNFOnews.ca.
