BC physiotherapist suspended for giving multiple drugs in sessions

A BC physiotherapist was suspended from practice for allegedly giving a variety of drugs to a patient during treatments.

The BC College of Physical Therapists is still investigating the allegation against Minal Shah, but decided she should be suspended until she has a discipline hearing in order to "protect the public."

"The inquiry committee's assessment was that restrictions on the registrant's practice would not be sufficient to protect the public from the concerns identified in this case," a public notice from the college reads. "The committee therefore concluded that suspension from practice was necessary to protect the public during the investigation."

The allegations against the Prince Rupert physical therapist were not detailed, however, in the college's notice.

"The college received a complaint that the registrant provided multiple medications on several occasions during their physical therapy sessions," the notice reads.

She did admit to giving medication to the patient on one occasion, but the college continues to investigate.

The college said it could constitute professional misconduct if proven.

A hearing date has yet to scheduled.
