Cooler weather breaks temperature record in Kamloops

With cooler than usual temperatures across the Thompson Okanagan, Kamloops experienced a weather record yesterday.

Environment Canada meteorologist Dave Wray said Kamloops hit an overnight low of -5.5 C and the old record was -5 C sent in 1971, “so it’s been quite a while.”

Penticton saw an overnight low of -4.5 C but the old record was -6.7C. Kelowna saw -3.7 yesterday morning but the old record held at -4.7 C, he said.

Most areas in the Interior saw below 0 C yesterday and regular averages for this time of year average 3 C.

“We were six or seven degrees colder than normal. Daytime highs are usually 16 C and we were a good two, three, four degrees below that but we have a couple of weak weather systems coming through but temperatures warm a bit,” Wray.

Showers are expected throughout the week but will likely be back on track for a normal April at the end of the week.

“It was still fairly chilly this morning but yesterday looks to be the coldest in the last few stretch of days,” Wray said.

A special weather statement was issued this afternoon for the Trans-Canada from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass.
