COVID-19 cases increase in Central Okanagan, Kamloops

The Central Okanagan and Kamloops has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases while other communities reported fewer cases.

There were 156 cases reported in the Central Okanagan last week, 114 in Kamloops, 29 in Vernon and 15 in Penticton, from Nov. 28 and Dec. 4.

The week prior, from Nov. 21 to 27, the Central Okanagan had 141, Kamloops reported 75, Penticton had 18 cases and Vernon 43.

The province reported COVID-19 cases has been steadily declining, with hospital admissions decreasing and deaths also declining, in a report released Dec. 2.

The vaccination rate for those aged 12 and older with at least one dose is unchanged at 91.4% across the province. For those with two doses, the rate increased slightly to 88.4%. There are 12% of B.C. residents who have received a third dose.

The Delta variant is accounting for all positive COVID-19 tests, according to the report.

Hospitalization rates among children continue to remain very low.
