COVID daily case count continues to grow with 2,441 in B.C.; 188 in Interior Health

For the fourth consecutive day, the number of new COVID-19 cases in B.C. broke the daily record with 2,441, new cases in the last 24 hours.

That breaks yesterday’s record of 2,046.

After holding steady for the past couple of weeks, the case count in the Interior Health region took a jump to 188 new cases, according to a news release issued by the Province of B.C. today, Dec. 24.

There were new 967 cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 1,001 in Fraser Health, 219 on Vancouver Island and 66 in the Northern Health region.

Hospitalizations have stayed at a relatively even rate with 192 people currently in hospital with 71 in intensive care.

There are 10,415 active cases which is a new record, eclipsing 10,081 in April.

There were four new deaths, one of which was in the Interior Health region, bringing the B.C. total to 2,414.

There have now been 1,613 cases of the Omicron variant recorded in B.C. but it takes a few days to do the testing to determine which variant is present.

Of those, 40 were in the Interior Health region, up from 19 reported yesterday.

On the vaccination front, the rate for those aged 12 and over with at least one dose remained unchanged at 91.8% as did the 89% of B.C. residents who have two doses. The number of B.C. residents who have received a third dose also remained unchanged, at 17%

There are 14,000 unbooked vaccination appointments in the Interior Health region next week. People can book booster shots as soon as they are notified that they are eligible, or book first or second doses at Get Vaccinated B.C. here.
