Dog spotted traveling to Kelowna on back of flatbed truck

The driver of a flatbed pickup truck has been reported to police after a dog was seen riding on the back on Highway 97 near Kelowna.

A short leash appears to be the only safety measure protecting the dog in a video that was posted to the Facebook page Shaming Drivers of the Okanagan.

The truck is seen driving northbound on Highway 97 in West Kelowna, just a short distance from the William R. Bennett Bridge.

The woman who posted the video said in the caption that traffic was travelling at speeds in excess of 100 kilometres per hour. She added that the dog was shaking and cowering, and that it had been reported to the RCMP.

A photo of the truck’s licence plate was also shared along with the video.

ICBC reminds motorists that transporting an unsecured pet in the back of a pickup truck violates Section 72 of the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act.

A message left with the RCMP was not immediately returned before publication.
