North Okanagan RCMP are alerting the public to a series of dangerous and suspicious fires recently in Coldstream parks and wooded areas.
There have been four suspicious fires over the past six weeks, according to an RCMP media release.
The most recent was a human-caused brush fire in a wooded ravine at around 2:10 p.m. Thursday, July 4, in the 9700 block of Coldstream Creek Road.
Police questioned people in the area at the time of the fire but no suspects or witnesses were found.
On June 12, there were two suspicious fires near Cosens Bay, RCMP said. No suspects were identified and the investigation continues.
Coldstream fire crews put out a burning tree stump in Creekside Park near the intersection of Kalamalka Lake and Kidston roads.
RCMP said it’s unknown if any of the fires are related.
“These incidents are highly concerning and extremely dangerous to public safety,” Vernon RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tania Finn said in the release.
“It wouldn’t have taken much for any of these fires to spread out of control and jeopardize nearby properties.”
Const. James Spoor would like to speak with anyone who was in the area of Coldstream Creek Road, Cosens Bay Road and Grieves Road between 1:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. who may have information about that fire or has dash cam video.
